I'm not big into "blood and guts" scary, but if you want "scared to turn out the lights" scary, watch Dead Again.

My fav scary movie is The Prince of Darkness. Watching it nowadays is pretty funny because of the 80's cheese, but I still love it.

The Others was very good for suspense and chill-factor. Hellraiser 1 + 2 were fairly scary (lots of gore though) ... the rest were garbage. The original Omen 1 + 2 were also up there.

The movie that gets me everytime, and that I have watched many, many times is Event Horizon. I love great scary movies, just not typical horror films as I find them funny and cheesy. Event Horizon was just scary and emotionally draining the whole time.

I'm also a huge fan of Zombie movies... especially the original Night of the Living Dead. The ending gets me every time! Love it!

it really depends on what type of horror you are into. it seems like there is a cultural difference on the nature of horror movies. western horror is more blood and gore, hack and slash, surprise scenes that make you scream type of horror. eastern horror (notably japanase) is more spine-chilling, tense the whole movie, leave you nightmares type of horror.

with that said, my top horror films would be:
the ring (original japanese version)
the grudge (original japanese version)
arachnophobia (i'm arachnophobic. =P)

Completly agreed. Most ppl cant handle the blood and gore which is why i hear saw is so "scary" from ppl here. Its really not scary AT ALL. the only thing it may scare ppl is all the ppl getting cut up. Tense movies get me everytime =].
